For the Opening of Classes for School Year 2010-2011
My Dear Students,
Warmest greetings to you all as we welcome the start of a new school year with much hope for added milestones in our school’s journey to excellence. These greetings I also extend in behalf of our Founder-Director, Mr. Hyock Chu Kwon, the Board of Directors, and the entire team of administrators, teachers, and non-teaching staff.
I am sure you will get pleasantly excited about the new things in store for you this year. Be assured that all of our efforts are designed to assure that your best interests are served very well. Let me point out a few of these fresh initiatives:
1. The new school uniform with distinct school colors will allow you comfort, convenience, and flexibility in participating actively in class activities. The ruby red stripes signify the passion for assiduous life-long learning and selfless service that the school promotes in the entire academic community. The dominant global deep-sea blue represents the school’s commitment to welcome and serve students from different cultural backgrounds. Wear your uniform proudly!
2. More Advance Placement (AP) courses are open to our Grades 11 and 12 students. These courses which are approved by the College Board, USA will be both challenging and rewarding to students as they prepare to take the AP examinations competently in May, 2011. The AP Program allows students to complete college courses while still in high school. We, therefore, heartily congratulate our students who successfully passed their AP examinations last May.
3. Spanish, which is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world, will be taught as a foreign language for the first time in our school. In a special way, learning Spanish will lead you to a deep understanding and appreciation of the Philippines’ very rich Spanish cultural heritage. The Philippines was a colony of Spain for 333 years, from 1565 to 1898.
4. With the new Homeroom Program, you will experience in a fresher way the support of your Homeroom Adviser as a friend, counselor, and advocate. Your adviser will be there to help you think and feel good about yourself so that you may experience success at school.
5. The teachers have come up with a common creed or set of beliefs about positive student discipline. These beliefs include respecting the child as the secret of education with reference to an essay written by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I, too, believe that you can learn best when you like what you do from teachers you love and respect and who you believe love and respect you. I strongly hope that your everyday experiences in school will help you appreciate the beauty of personal discipline and of “living well with others”.
6. There shall be more focus on career counseling and support for admissions and scholarships in top foreign universities. Our school is relentless in establishing linkages and partnerships in this regard.
7. We look forward to greater home-school cooperation. We believe strongly that we can achieve much more for your good if we work closely with families.
There are many more initiatives in the areas of student activities, sports and athletics, and social outreach. In all these efforts, I hope for your warm participation and support as we journey together to attain our ESLRS. Be assured that all our resources and energies are designed to help you become -
